Guest Blogger: Wedding Dress Trunk Shows

Today’s informative and fun guest blog post comes from Anna, co-owner of anna bé  and a&bé bridal shop, two of the best wedding dress boutiques in Denver. She will be sharing all you need to know about wedding dress trunk shows.

What exactly is a wedding dress trunk show?
A trunk show is a weekend event where brides have the opportunity to shop some of the newest styles from a featured designer. When a designer comes out with a new collection of wedding dresses they may design anywhere from 8 to 20 new styles. And as much as we would love to, we generally are unable to have all of the styles in our shop and so we may only have 4 – 6 styles. But… that all changes during the trunk show. During the trunk show the designer will send us lots of new styles and usually some past favorites as well allowing a bride to try on tons of gowns! In the past, the gowns traveled in an actual trunk from location to location, which is where the name originally came from.

During a trunk show, a bride will still work one-on-one with our stylists for a 90 minute appointment. Once a bride finds her gown, measurements will be taken and the dress will be made to order. In terms of timing, we recommend ordering your wedding gown at least 6-9 months before your wedding date and with a trunk show sometimes that timing may be even longer as sometimes we only host 1 trunk show per year per designer! If you are lucky enough to be shopping during the trunk show definitely take advantage of this special event!!!

What are some of the benefits are attending?
In addition to being able to try on a TON of styles, sometimes these styles can be seen before they even arrive in the stores! This means a bride will be one of the very first to ever buy that particular dress.

And if a bride is really lucky, the designer will be at the trunk show. Seriously, how cool is that. A bride could meet with the person who designed the dress that she will wear on her wedding day.
Lastly, we rarely have sales or incentives, but if there is going to be one, you can bet it will happen during a trunk show! Sometimes meeting with that designer means making a change to your dress for no cost!

When are your upcoming ones? Anyone in particular you are excited about?
For a&be denver we’ve got some really fun events on the horizon:

February 26-27 // Wtoo and Willowby
Hands down, this collection coming from the Wtoo and Willowby line is the strongest collection that has been put out in years. There’s something for every type of bride: the rustic, the romantic, the classic, and the bohemian. And, this collection starts for less than a $1,000 and during the trunk show all brides who buy will save 10%!

March 4-5 // Claire La Faye
Claire is the coolest ever. Before bridal, she worked as a stylist and really takes this strength of taking one’s individual style and bringing it to a bride’s wedding dress. During this trunk show brides will get to meet with and work one-on-one with Claire!

March 10 // Sara Gabriel (thursday night)
We adore Sara! Sara is a local Denver veil designer and is taking over the bridal world with her hand-finished collection of veils and headpieces that have classic roots and are perfect for the free-spirited, independent bride. Not to mention, she’s pretty fabulous. For one night, we’re inviting all of our brides to come get styled by Sara. She’ll help you pick the perfect finishing touch for your wedding dress!

March 11-12 // Limor Rosen
Limor Rosen is a new Israeli line that is going to be one of the hottest names and we get to bring the collection to Denver brides first! The gowns will only be in our shop for one weekend!

March 18-19 // La Poesie
This line is effortlessly cool. It’s inspired by parisian boho chic and is so romantic. This also is a collection that we are bringing to Denver brides first and will only be in the store for one weekend.

Do I need an appointment to attend?
YES! We want to make sure that we have a fitting room and a stylist to work with you. We encourage you to call us at 720.627.5760 to schedule your trunk show appointment. If you have any questions about the designer, a specific dress, or any of the events we would love to help answer your questions.

Good luck to all you lovelies looking for the dress!

Molly & Jeff’s Wedding featured on Green Wedding Shoes

I’ve been dying to share this wedding! I apologize now for the picture overload, but these photos from EP love are amazing and Molly & Jeff’s was was such a joy to be a part of; they were so open minded and just a joy to be around. So I am so excited to see it featured on Green Wedding Shoes today, click HERE to see the feature!

Most importantly, their wedding truly turned out to be a reflection of who they are as a couple. The Lyons Farmette was the perfect backdrop for the laid back celebration complete with baby goats, chickens, gardens, and a darling renovated airstream. The bold and happy color palette really set the tone for this fun and vibrant wedding. And of course, Molly looked just ethereal in her gorgeous Tara LaTour gown from Anna Be. Of course we can’t forget the gorgeous flowers! A Florae incorporated a vast variety of flowers, such as peonies, blushing bride, ranunculus, scabiosa, sweet peas, and cafe au lait dahlias all keeping within the color palette for a lush and full look.

If you are considering doing a first look, but still not sure let these photos help convince you!  From the bride: “My absolute favorite part about the day was our first look. It was so special to have those few sweet moments together to embrace, breathe, and truly feel the magnitude of what we were about to do. It’s easy to get caught up in the little details, but in the end my favorite memories are of the feelings that were evoked by being surrounded by the people that we love the most.

First look from the 2nd shooter’s view..sigh!

The stationery was designed and calligraphed by Sally Balt of la Happy. Sally created these invitations using her whimsical custom calligraphy and vintage farm motifs, all in shades of mint green and brown. Kraft envelopes with an arrow design liner, mad lib response card,  and vintage postage made them just darling.

The ceremony was simple and sweet. The bride’s aunt was their officiant.   A Florae hung simple bud vases from the venue’s tree. It was the perfect backdrop.

The reception was playful with a touch of modern. Some of the other notable details included a dessert station set atop a whiskey barrel table, handmade striped napkins, and the bride’s grandmother’s vintage egg cup collection in the tablescape. Oh and we can’t forget about the delicious food from EAT!

From the bride: “One of the most special things about our wedding was that my dad made all the beer. In the several months leading up to the wedding, he spent every spare second tending to his home-brewed creations and making sure his recipes would please our guests. He even named each of the nine types of beer after something special in Jeff and my relationship, like Belle Duvel (our dog’s name) and Smoke Machine Porter (Jeff’s proposal involved a faulty smoke machine). Although his recycled bottles weren’t very beautiful, our guests were incredibly impressed by his hard work and the how delicious they all were.”

Last but not least the couples getaway car, a vintage 1972 VW bus (thanks Hippe Limo)

Congrats Molly & Jeff! Thanks again for letting us share in your joyous day!

A Big Announcement

Happy Easter everyone!

I have a big announcement for all of you! But a bit of a divergence first..

Inspiration can come from anywhere. My inspiration for a recent wedding photo shoot: pomegranates…yes pomegranates! I love the rich reds and burgundy hues in them. The funny shape that is dying for a ring to be placed on them. The rest of the design complimented that.

Here is images from the shoot that I love. Photos compliments of Lola Elise:

Check out this flowers from Bare Root Flora!! These are some seriously talented ladies.

Isn’t that the most amazing headpiece? Thank you Grace Dunbar!

Don’t this invites from Sweet Azalea Boutique look like watercolor? I also wanted to cake to have a watercolor look. The inspiration for the design of the cake came from this image:

And I think Kelly Kakes did an great job:

On the side of the cakes is some delicious macarons and other pastries from Teacup Shop.  Brides are always asking me where to get macarons- Paula is your lady!

Pretty Writing did the calligraphy for the window menu. I seriously love the vendors I worked with. Check out make-up by Natosha Cooke Makeup Artistry and hair by Hair Design by Brandice:

And signature drinks are a must at any wedding. For these, I kept with the pomegranate inspiration.

Aren’t these labels cute? And don’t forget the paper flowers on the chairs. I think these would be adorable for Bride & Groom chairs or ceremony chairs.

Orange letterpress coasters added that extra something.

We did two different plates settings. One with these modern square plates from All Well Rents.

and one other with colorful ones from Anthropologie:

And if you are like me and are a big Vera Wang fan-you can get it at Anna Be Bridal Boutique. The name of the dress is Diana.

AND the shoot was featured on Grey Likes Weddings! Yay! Click here to see the feature!

I love designing…pulling all the details together and working with vendors to create something beautiful is a passion of mine. So much so that I really want to do it more. So I have decided to start offering wedding planning  and styling as part of my services. Some of my brides already know this because I am doing their lovely weddings this year. I will not be taking any more this year, but if your wedding is in 2013- feel free to contact me!

Anna-Be-Five Event

I am very happy that Kara Delay from Love This Day Events asked me to work with her on the upcoming Anna-Be event. Anna-Be (Denver Bridal Store) is celebrating their 5th anniversary by having a HUGE and fabulous 1920’s themed party! I can’t wait to go shopping for this party!
There will be seven different vignettes there, so tons of inspiration! The event will be taking place downtown at the Mile High Station.  Best part of the event is that any money raised goes towards Greenhouse Scholars– an organization that benefits high-preforming under-resourced college students. So mark you calendars for November 10th! Click HERE to learn  more about this event and buy tickets!
