Hey there everyone! My name is Whitnie and I’m interning with A Vintage Affair this summer and as part of our tasks we were asked to create an inspiration board for a potential wedding that was based on a non-wedding photograph. Well, I had just gotten back from a month in Paris where I was exposed to more art than my brain knew what to do with, and subsequently took a ton of photos as well of said art. When we were given this assignment I immediately knew what photo I wanted to use.
This painting by Giacometti includes beautiful rich tones and a dark aesthetic. The deep red and blue colors were complimented by the cool whites and accents of gold. These colors and the overall composition evoke a feeling of dark romance, and I knew this is what I wanted my inspiration board to reflect as well.
I began by looking at photos that incorporated this moody vibe and wanted to embrace a variety of textures and finishes. I absolutely love the contrast between the opulence of the velvet furniture against the industrial finish of the candle shelf. I also really wanted this board to contain a balance between natural elements, like the wood of the farm table, and more polished and romantic details, as seen in the gold flatware and the whimsical blush table runner.
The flower arrangements contain stunning shades of maroon along with greenery, which perfectly reflects the outside ceremony space and gorgeous place cards, done by the amazing Bash Calligraphy . The accents of sparkly gold against the stark black reminds me of the days of gothic cathedrals and adds a touch of glamour.
I wanted this inspiration board, and corresponding wedding, to transport guests to another world. A world filled with magic, intrigue, and fairytale endings. I hope you all enjoy and can take aspects of this board and incorporate them into your own special day!
