Elegant and Romantic Restaurant Wedding

This elegant and romantic restaurant wedding in the heart of downtown Denver was the perfect way to celebrate Kristin & Brett’s love and commitment to one another. With the help of an incredible team, this foodie couple was able to transform the contemporary urban eatery into a romantic, elegant, and warm soiree with their closest friends and family. Kristin, who is an event planner herself, gave attention to every single detail of the day. There was not a inch of the restaurant that didn’t incorporate a piece of her vision and style. You can also see this wedding on Rocky Mountain Bride CO Spring & Summer 2017. Or in the latest issue of the Colorado Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine!

Kristin brought in the fabulously talented Liz of Siloh Floral Artistry to help bring her vision to life. Together they came up with the concept of having a “living” art piece as the backdrop for their ceremony. Kristin and Liz wanted to create an intimate and unique element that would combine abstract art with romantic and feminine florals. What came to life on the wedding day was a ten foot high and ten foot wide painted canvas with blooms and foliage spilling out of the canvas to make it appear alive and growing. It was absolutely incredible and so jaw dropping! It later doubled as the photo booth backdrop.

This romantic restaurant wedding was held at The Kitchen. Outside, the city of Denver bustled by while guests enjoyed a family-style meal seated down long wood tables under the warmth of candlelight. The tables were adorned with beautiful and lush centerpieces in muted and neutral tones that spilled onto the tables.

The invitations and the menus were created by Sweet Letterpress. All of the signage for the wedding was hand-lettered by Taryn from Taryn Eklund Ink. From the custom cocktail boards, the guestbook globe, and the calligraphy on the mirror in the restaurant, everything had a personal touch from the bride and groom.

With a fairly feminine and soft vision, Kristin wanted to incorporate a masculine element that would represent more of Brett’s personality and interests. There was a whisky tasting and cigar bar table for the groom with his groom’s cake, accented with brass and copper lanterns, terrarium with succulents, and moss.

The day was captured beautifully on film by the wonderful Connie Whitlock.

Vendors: What to Book & When

The trees and flowers are blooming which means Spring is upon us and so is the start of Colorado’s wedding season! If you are joyfully looking forward to your wedding this year we wish you all the best and hope your wedding is all that you dream of. If you are newly engaged, (congratulations!) or still looking for vendors for later this year, check out this guideline from WeddingWire about when you should be hiring certain vendors.  And continue reading for some helpful do’s and don’ts from A Vintage Affair on the planning process! Hopefully this will help you with your own planning process and make it a little more fun!

A little recap! And a few extra tips from us.

12 months before: Ceremony & Reception Venues, Wedding Planner

You want to book the venues as one of the first vendors because it will determine your wedding date. If you book far enough out a planner can help you choose the venue if you would like, but it’s hard to book other vendors without your date set.

Do: When looking into venues consider who you and your fiancé are, what you like to do and your aesthetics. Are you two big foodies? Your favorite restaurant could be a great reception spot. Check out these restaurant weddings! The Kitchen and Coohills. Do you two like to spend time outdoors? Consider something out of the city, a little closer to the foothills, or even in the mountains like Lyon’s Farmette, Vail Nordic Center, Taharra Mountain Lodge.

Are either of you from a state with more water? There are a few venues with running rivers or a lake on property! See Piney River Ranch, Riverbend, Evergreen Lake House. Do you both lean towards a more modern or industrial style? Maybe look closer into the city, as there are venues that cater to this style. Places like Blanc, Moss and McNichols Building may be great for you. Remember, it’s about you two that day, so choose what makes you both happy!

Be sure to check out our Pinterest page and WeddingWire’s venues page to check out even more venues!

When it comes to the planner, make sure you connect. You will be working with your planner the duration of the planning process whether that be five months or a year and a half.

Don’t: What I’m about to say will hold true to ever vendor on this list. Maybe parents, other family or even friends will be helping you pay for the wedding, totally normal. What we want you to remember is that it’s still yours and your fiancé’s special day. Take the others opinions into consideration, but don’t make big decisions based on what whoever’s paying wants, especially if it goes against what you really want. There are ways to thank those helping you with the wedding, without compromising your dreams.

10 months: Photographer, Videographer, Florist, Caterer

Do: Again, you want to make sure you vibe well with your photographer. Aside from one another, you and your fiancé will be with your photographer more than anyone else that day. You want to make sure you both get along well with whoever you choose. The same goes with the videographer.

When you narrow down your selection of caterers, it is okay to go to more than one tasting. We’d probably recommend narrowing it down to two but no more than three. Menus are a great way to figure out what you’re going to serve, but until you actually taste what the caterer has to offer, you won’t know for sure if you like it or LOVE it!

Here at A Vintage Affair, we have a love affair (get it?!) with flowers. So we get excited to discuss your flowers, hear what you want and help you find which florist we think you’d mesh with the best. Again, take your style into consideration, are you more romantic, free spirited, traditional or a mix? All florists have their own signature and style. Chat with your planner about it and they can point you in the right direction.

Don’t: Even if florals may not be in your top priorities it is definitely important to seek florists out early on.  Again let your planner know your priorities so they can point you to someone who would work well with you, your vision and your budget. But it’s always sad when a couple leaves florals last, because they aren’t as focused on flowers so the florists we would recommend to them are already booked. As you can see from this list, florists book out months in advance so better sooner than later.

9 months: Band or DJ

Do: Consider the range in prices for bands. They can range vastly among bands and with the amount of people you want to hire. If you’ve always imagined a band at your wedding but don’t have the budget for a 10 piece band consider going down in number of band players.  A three to five piece band can be just as awesome! A guitar, drums, and bass with a vocalist is a good starting point and then you can add on keys & horns etc…

8 months: Ceremony Music (if different from Band or DJ), Guest Accommodations, Officiant, Wedding Dress, Stationery Save the Dates

Do: When making guest accommodations check if hotels can provide transportation to the venue for potential guests staying there. Some venues even have an arrangement with venues and transportation companies and if a certain number of guests are staying on property they will work directly with a transportation company to book a bus.

7 months: Cake Baker, Bridesmaid Dresses, Honeymoon Travel Consultant
6 months: Stationery Invitations, Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, Rentals

Do: We absolutely recommend doing a trial with both your hair stylist and makeup artist before the wedding date. It helps ensure that you are on the same page with each other on what you want and you’ll know if you really do like that look from Pinterest or if you need to change it up a little bit.

5 months: Men’s Attire, Accessories, Transportation
3 months: Favors, Wedding Rings

While you do not have to follow this guideline exactly, it is a good place to start. Our biggest takeaway: don’t wait to book your vendors! Happy happy wedding planning to all of you. Remember to enjoy the process, have fun planning!

Meet Whitnie!

We are delighted to introduce Whitnie, who will be interning with us this summer!

Hello, my name is Whitnie Watkins! I am entering into my junior year at Western State Colorado University where I am studying art and business. I grew up in Denver, Colorado and absolutely love living in the city. I am obsessed with elephants and cupcakes and all things beauty. When I am not in school I love spending time with my family trying out new eateries and exploring new areas in the state.

Travel

I have never been out of the country, but I have a serious case of wanderlust. I will actually be studying abroad in Paris, France this May and I am so excited! Within the states, my favorite place has been San Francisco. The food was incredible and offered both the city and the sea. I think being able to travel and experience all that this world has to offer is one of the biggest opportunities in life. I hope to travel much more often once I graduate and be able to experience all corners of the world.

Weddings

Weddings are just the best! From the bride’s dress to the décor to the couple’s vows every moment in a wedding is unique and magical. I love how weddings express a couple’s unique style and how they are able to unite two people and their families and friends. I’m thrilled to be able to work with A Vintage Affair and help produce a couple’s unforgettable dream day.

Vibrant Planet Bluegrass Wedding

So excited to see Sara & Glenn’s beautiful vibrant Planet Bluegrass wedding featured in MyWedding magazine this season. Lale Florals knocked it out of the park from embellishing the couples’ custom built chuppah with a colorful and natural landscape that complemented the beauty of the area to the unique and beautiful bouquets and reception flowers. The day was beautifully captured by the talented Michele Hart!

This ceremony was definitely one for the books! As Sara was walking down towards, a gust of wind whipped her veil around  and eventually blew it off.  Instead of worrying Sara and her parents laughed it off and continued down the aisle. During the ceremony, the rabbi invited both Sara and Glenn’s parents up where they danced together in a circle, laughing and smiling, celebrating the joy of their children’s’ marriage. It was a ceremony filled with so much love and happiness, you couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear.

The ceremony set the tone for the rest of the day. Sara and Glenn, family and friends enjoyed the evening eating and dancing. Surrounded by love and laughter it was a day no one will soon forget. We wish Sara and Glenn all the best!

Elegant & Intimate Mountain Wedding

Jessica and Kiffer’s intimate mountain wedding was absolutely stunning! From the ceremony at the Vail Wedding Deck ( I mean look at that view!!), to the elegant reception, marvelous food presentation by Hooked, and the of course the couple themselves. Not to mention the bride’s amazing wedding dresses including a top she designed herself! Such a joy to witness these best friends tie the knot and celebrate with their closest friends and family. Thank you Jessica and Kiffer for letting me be a part of your special day.

Creative Boho Wedding

Bailey and Chad had an awesome, creative boho wedding at Piney River Ranch in Vail Colorado. This stunning venue is located at the foot of the Gore Range right next to Piney Lake in Colorado. To help Bailey’s vision of a chic boho wedding come to life she brought in the talented Rachel with March Floral Designs. Rachel knocked it out of the park with her creative ideas from a wildflower semi-circle garland ceremony piece for the couple to stand in which was perfect since it didn’t block the views, to the bridesmaids similar yet each one uniquely different bouquets with mismatched ribbon or leathers strands, to the head table adorned with the garland repurposed from the ceremony with flowers and candles spread throughout and vines that sprang from the table and cascaded to the floor!

Other amazing details that came together to create this gorgeous day included calligraphed watercolored escort cards hung on a macrame backdrop with a guestbook sign to match, and calligraphed signs of the bar menu, welcome sign and large chalkboard sign with a love quote to hang in the newlyweds home.  An extra special detail was that their first dance and ceremony were held on the deck of the Ranch overlooking the lake and the mountains.  This charming day was captured so beautifully by Kellsworth Photo. See it here on Green Wedding Shoes! Congratulations again Bailey & Chad!

Relaxed Winter Park Wedding

Working with Sara and Blaine on their relaxed Winter Park wedding was such a joy! They are so fun, sweet and cheerful that I couldn’t wait for their big day from the moment we began working together. Their love for one another was so evident the entire day, and even going back through these photos to make this post, I couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear. Cheers to such a wonderful day spent on top of the Mary Jane mountain! Congratulations again Sara & Blaine!

Modern Organic Wedding

Erin and Matt’s modern organic wedding at Crooked Willow was nothing less than beautiful! We wouldn’t expect anything less from one of our most stylish bride’s. Working with Erin to help her vision come to life was such a joy from picking out linens with a pop of color to figuring out how we could mesh the vibes of a modern wedding with vintage elements. All the details come together to create a natural and organic but creative with a dash of whimsical day.
